The Kalona City Council made some aesthetic decisions on the community center that’s under construction at their recent meeting.
They made choices on colors including the gym floor, bleachers, guardrail, and wall colors. The council approved a change order of $29,588.18 to Bushong Construction for a steel-painted guardrail that will be installed on the mezzanine track and will replace the stairwell rail in the existing part of the building.
City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh gives an update on the construction, “With the weather – snow, rain, wind – it’s been a little bit prohibitive to complete the roof panels but during that time they’ve been doing some interior insulation in the building. So they’re trying to stay ahead on some components while they were falling a little bit behind on a couple of others, based on our initial goals.”
Schlabaugh says they’re still confident construction will be finished by the August 10 deadline.
