The Highland girls’ basketball team ended their season in heartbreaking fashion on Saturday by falling to Alburnett in the first round of regionals 75-66 in overtime.

The Pirates seized control early, jumping out to a 16-8 lead after the first, and 40-29 lead at half. The Huskies’ defense started to settle in, holding the Pirates to 17 points in the third and fourth quarter. Highland sent the game into overtime with it all notched up at 57-57. Alburnett got their offense going once again in overtime outscoring the Huskies 18-9 to move on in regionals. The Huskies had a hard time stopping Madison Osborn finishing with a game-high 28 points. Alyson Stokes led the Huskies with 21 points. Abbie Miller cashed in on 18 points and Sarah Schneider added 14. The Huskies conclude their season at 12-10 and Alburnett advances to face off with Pekin tomorrow.

Highland loses Murphy Beinhart, Brylee Carolan, and Katie Gerot to graduation.
