The Iowa Mennonite School girls basketball team is in the regional semifinals Friday night when they travel to New Sharon to take on No. 3 ranked North Mahaska.

This is the first time IMS has advanced this far into the postseason since 2014. The IMS girls come into the contest with an overall record of 5-16 following a pair of playoff wins, each by win point, over Keota in the opening round and most recently, English Valleys Tuesday 48-47 on the road. Suzanna Yoder led IMS with 29 points, Alyssa Hershberger had 12. On the season, Yoder leads IMS with an average of 22 points per game, best in class 1A. Yoder also has the team lead with 78 assists, sixth in the Southeast Iowa Superconference. Alyssa Hershberger has a team best 146 boards.

North Mahaska comes into tonight at a perfect 21-0 on the season, ranked No. 3 in the final poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. The Warhawks beat BGM to open the playoffs 63-40 on Tuesday behind 22 points from Kassidi Steel. On the year North Mahaska is led by Steel scoring 19 points per game, 10th in the state. Paige Layman leads the Warhawks and the South Iowa Cedar League with 81 assists.

The winner of tonight’s game advances to the regional final Monday at Grinnell for the right to advance to the state tournament in Des Moines.
