It took all 32 minutes Thursday at Keota in the first round of the regional tournament as the Iowa Mennonite School girls basketball team scored a come from behind win over the Keota Eagles 37-36.

In a game heard on AM and FM KCII, things were tight through the first quarter with the Eagles up 7-6. In the second quarter Keota put together a 13-0 run and took a 20-13 lead into the break. The Eagles stretched their advantage to 11 midway through the third quarter before IMS made their run. The Iowa Mennonite defense held Keota without a field goal for the final 10 minutes of the game while the offense put together a 15-3 sprint to take their first lead since the opening minutes. Despite the IMS run, Keota hit enough free throws in the final quarter to retake a four point lead with 90 seconds left.

IMS got a three pointer from freshman Yani Gutierrez to make it a one point game and after a Keota turnover, IMS capitalized one more time. On a broken play with four near turnovers, Gutierrez found a cutting Alyssa Hershberger and her layup with 3.5 seconds left put IMS up by one for good, sealing the win. IMS was led on the night by Suzanna Yoder with 17 points, Hershberger had 12 including the game winner. Addison Sprouse led the Eagles with 13, Paige Thompson had 12. With the win, IMS is now 4-16 and advances to the regional quarterfinals Tuesday to take on English Valleys. Keota wraps up their season at 3-19.
