The Kalona Public Works Department will be heading south to inspect street equipment for the city’s use.

The city council made a recommendation to purchase a new street sweeper from Mid-Iowa Solid Waste Equipment Company. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says the street sweeper is in Texas, “So our Public Works Director Matt Jacoby is going to, at the expense of Mid-Iowa, going to be traveling with the sales rep next week to go down and physically inspect what we intend to purchase. If we agree on everything that we’ve seen so far and in person we’ll go ahead and have the unit brought up to Iowa, and we’ll go and take ownership of it probably in early April.”

After discussions with the City of Wellman about a potential 28-E Agreement to share the sweeper and other equipment the City of Kalona decided it was best to assume sole ownership of the sweeper now and revisit a sharing agreement in the future.
