Those who are interested in camping for free and volunteering for the Marr Park campground may have the opportunity to this year.

The Washington County Conservation Board approved creating a volunteer campground host position. Director Steve Anderson explains the venture, “It’s a new thing that we’re looking like we’re going to try in 2018. We’ve actually had several people come forward expressing in interest in being the campground host. And so we’re attempting to pattern this like the other county conservation boards in Iowa are doing it, basically exchanging camping for one person at a time in exchange for them providing us some services.”

Duties would include helping campers get registered, cleaning bathrooms, and ensuring that visitors have a positive experience. The board decided for the first host contract to expire July 10, subject to the approval of the Washington County Attorney’s Office.
