The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team opens the tournament trail tonight when they host conference rival Tipton in the class 3A regionals.

Mid-Prairie enters action at 12-9 on the season. Last time out they beat rival Washington 57-46 behind 22 points from Addie Rath. On the season, Rath leads Mid-Prairie and is third in the River Valley Conference at 17 points per game. She also leads the team and is ninth in the conference with 151 rebounds. Anna Vilovchik has the team lead with 56 assists.

Tipton comes into tonight’s action with an overall record of 6-14. The Tigers lost at Iowa City Regina 73-35 last time out, led by Amanda Smith’s 12 points. Smith leads Tipton this year averaging 13 points per game. Smith leads the River Valley and is second in class 3A with 238 rebounds. Emily Hermsen paces the Tigers with 50 assists. The Golden Hawks swept the season series from the Tigers winning 62-49 in Wellman and 56-52 in Tipton.
