The Mid-Prairie School District will be perking up their ears this Thursday for the annual Pops & Pie concert.

Vocal music teacher Collette McClellen describes the theme, “Pops refers to popular music, so things that are a little more in the culture right now. But sometimes I tell the kids, ‘Hey, we’re not necessarily doing something popular from the 21st century, maybe it was popular in the 18th century.’ So we just kind of use that as a very broad overview for pops.”

The 18th century tune McClellen refers to is “Down to the River to Pray,” a traditional folk tune that was featured in the film O Brother, Where Art Thou? The mixed choir and ladies lyrica group will sing other songs from popular films like Titanic and Mulan. The concert will also feature about 15 solo and ensemble performances, and will conclude with pie for attendees. Pops & Pie is at 7:15 p.m. Thursday in the multipurpose room at the high school. Cost is $2 for adults, and free for students, Mid-Prairie faculty and their family.
