The Demon girls’ basketball team’s rally against Mount Pleasant last night came up short, as they fell in their final regular season game 44-38.

As heard on KCII, the Demons got out to a slow start and turned the ball over to quickly be down 8-1. Washington struggled to knock down shots against a 2-3 zone and trailed 10-7 after the first, 17-11 at half. The Demons started to utilize a 1-2-1-1 press that caused turnovers and led to fast break points. The energy carried over to the offensive side and the Demons took their first lead 25-24 heading into the fourth. The final quarter included five lead changes but the Panthers salted the game away at the free throw line. Kaylnn Batey sunk seven of eight free throws down the stretch to seal the win. Maddie Williamson finished with a game-high 17 points for Mount Pleasant. Kira Ropp led Washington off the bench with 11 points and Sarah Nacos added nine.

The Demons close the regular season at 6-15 and Mount Pleasant moves to 11-9. Washington gears up for regional play Wednesday when they host Fort Madison.
