The Washington and Columbus Community/Winfield-Mt. Union wrestling teams had their district at Fairfield on Saturday and numerous individuals punched their ticket to Wells Fargo this week.

The Demons had three of their eight wrestlers crack the top two to advance to state. Walker Ikerd took home first at 120 lbs with a pair of falls in a combined 3:18. Tristin Westphal-Edwards made quick work at 170 lbs with a pin in 13 seconds and a 16-0 technical fall in the championship match. Mitchell Huisenga was the other qualifier at 285 lbs placing second by winning his first match 3-1, losing his second, then winning by fall in 19 seconds for second place. Other finishes for Washington included Dillan Sanders third at 132 lbs, Garrett Ikerd fourth at 138 lbs, Collin Murphy third at 182 lbs, Logan Escher third at 195 lbs, and Tanner Murphy fourth at 220 lbs.

The Wildcats had two of their three participants advance to state. Jared Kadel won both of his matches at 106 lbs by a fall in 1:13 and a 3-2 overtime win in the championship match. Cam Rice also qualified by placing second at 138 lbs. He won his first match 8-3, then fell by fall in his second, but won by a 4-0 decision to move on to state. Tucker Bright finished fourth for the Wildcats at 120 lbs.

The state tournament gets started Thursday in Des Moines.
