Washington, Johnson, and Jefferson Counties are three of just 20 Iowa counties that saw increases in population due to migration from 2010 to 2016.

According to data from the Legislative Services Agency, Washington County saw a domestic population increase of 150 people and an international increase of 40, for a net increase of 190 people. Jefferson County lost 338 people domestically but added 1,661 international population for a net increase of 1,323. Johnson County had an increase in both domestic and international populations for a total increase of 8,481 people. From 2015 to 2016 Illinois and Minnesota had the most residents move to Iowa, while the greatest flow of Iowans went to Illinois and Texas.
