The Washington boys’ basketball season came to a close on Monday night falling to Southeast Conference foe Fairfield 57-36 in Solon for the first round of the class 3A districts.

As heard on KCII, the Demons dug themselves a hole early, falling behind 9-1 with Fairfield capitalizing on fast break points. The lead was 16-6 after the first. The Demons started to settle in and battled back to within four, before the Trojans took a 25-17 lead into the break. In the second half Fairfield started to take advantage of their height with a heavy dose of Tristin Waugh and Austin Simspon. The two post players combined for 16-points in the final two quarters. They stretched the lead to 44-26 after three and cruised to the 21-point victory. A big reason for the Trojan success was their relentlessness on the boards, racking up 21 offensive rebounds. Collin Breen led Fairfield with 12 points. Luke Turner had a solid day’s work for Washington with nine points and Cade Hennigan cashed in on seven.

The Demons conclude the season at 6-16 and Fairfield improves to 14-8 while advancing to battle Solon on Thursday. Washington says goodbye to seven seniors including Dalton Myers, Blake Hartzler, Cale Hobscheidt, Jack Redlinger, Jacob Van Osdol, Matthew Roder, and Caleb Woodson.
