So far over $3.5 million has been raised for the new Washington YMCA building project.

The goal is $9 million for phase one and $3.5 million for phase two. At a recent Washington City Council meeting, councilman Steven Gault said that he recently toured the current facility, “All I’ve got to say is, ‘Oh, my God!’ That place, there’s no fixing it, it’s $4 million just get it up to code before you even start thinking about doing anything else. I told Ryan, I told the young lady, I understand why you want a new Y, I completely understand, but I also made the point that Washington tax payers should not be the ones to pay for a new Y.” The YMCA is seeking $3.5 million to help fund the project through grants and private donations. Phase one includes a full gym, weight rooms, meeting rooms, and an indoor track. The pool would be included in phase two.
