Washington County maintenance crews have been busy the last couple weeks with the recent snowfall.
Washington County Engineer Jacob Thorius says this winter has been normal. Thorius says the maintenance employees have been working hard to make roads drivable and safe for residents, “We’re lucky it was a dry powdery snow, that helps, and that the wind wasn’t blowing. It was actually relatively easy snow to deal with. It was a lot there on Tuesday morning when we were out pushing but it was easy driving through, easy to get around.”
Thorius says about 1,000 tons of salt and 1,000 tons of sand have been used so far this season, which is on par with what the department had budgeted for. Trucks went out 18 times on the paved routes and motor graders made 7-10 trips on the gravel routes during the recent snow events.
