It is severe weather awareness week and knowing what to do during a severe storm is the focus of the week.

Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen says each family should have a plan in place and talk about it, “Something every family should have is have a plan in place, so if your kids are at school, if you’re at work when something happens how are you going to make sure that they’re okay, how are you going to communicate with each other. Another thing is your emergency kit that you should have in your home, in your car, what should you have in those kits, just how to be aware of what is going on around you, and what risks actually you might face in the area you live in.” She advises, in the event of a disaster text messages are the best way to communicate, as they will go through easier than phone calls when many people are trying to use the phone system.

A statewide tornado drill is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, listen to KCII Radio for coverage of the event live Wednesday morning. Also, the sirens in the cities across Washington County will be sounded at that time.
