Area fire departments were busy extinguishing multiple grass fires in Washington County Thursday.

According to the Washington County Communications Office, the first call came in at 12:39 p.m. in the 3200 block of Fir Avenue with a grass fire out of control going into a cornfield toward a house. Brighton Fire responded and extinguished the fire. At 2:54 p.m. Keota and Washington Fire Departments extinguished a grass fire out of control in the 2400 block of Buckeye Avenue near Keota. That fire was going towards buildings at a neighboring property. At 3:30 p.m. a ditch fire was put out by Riverside Fire Department along Vine Avenue north of 150th Street. And at 4:27 p.m. Brighton Fire extinguished another fire, this was in the 3100 block of Fir Avenue. That fire was about 20 yards from a pole barn and 50 yards from a house. No injuries were reported.
