A contract for a bridge replacement was awarded this week and it came in over a quarter of $1 million under the estimate.

At Tuesday’s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting Washington County Engineer Jacob Thorius explained the project will replace a bridge on 275th Street, west of Hoot Owl Hollow. The original bridge that is there was constructed in 1936, and the replacement will eliminate weight restrictions. The contract was awarded to Iowa Bridge and Culvert of Washington for nearly $590,000 and the estimate had been $817,000. Only one bid was received for the project, which has a late start date of June 18.
