Car Strikes Semi After Brake Failure Monday

A car was totaled after it hit a semi south of Mount Pleasant Monday.

According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at about 12:24 p.m. Angela Neal of Mount Pleasant was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt southbound when her brakes went out, causing her to not stop at the stop sign intersection of Iowa Avenue and Highway 218. Neal struck the rear wheels of a southbound semi driven by Plamen Bejanski of Roselle, Illinois. Bejanski said he saw Neal coming but was unable to avoid the crash. No injuries were reported, the car was totaled and the semi suffered damage to the trailer axle area. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Mount Pleasant Police Department, Mount Pleasant Fire and Rescue, Henry County Ambulance, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement, and Iowa Department of Transportation all responded to the scene.
