With the arrival of spring, the City of Washington will soon resume picking up yard waste from residents.

The route will begin March 20th and yard waste will be collected each Tuesday and Thursday. West of 2nd Avenue will be on Tuesday and east of 2nd Avenue will be picked up Thursday. Bundles of tree trimmings, brush, and twigs will be collected, and should be tied together and weigh less than 75 pounds. Up to three bundles will be collected each time. Bags of organic mixed yard waste like grass, leaves, twigs, and garden waste will be collected in city designated bags and cannot exceed 75 pounds. Bags are available at City Hall and local businesses. Per city code, dry leaves and twigs can be burned, but burning trash or damp yard waste is prohibited.

Residents can also take yard waste to the waste water treatment facility on West Buchanan Street 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
