Two proposals were received for new Washington County Emergency Communications equipment.

The proposals were reviewed by local officials at a meeting Thursday. Chief Deputy of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office Shawn Ellingson shared the two costs, “You’re looking at RACOM at a $5.828, now that includes the 10-year projected maintenance. Now, like I said, that would be actually divvied out over 10 years and we can probably figure that into the bond or whatever. And then Motorola was at a $7.525. But, as Jack [Seward] has said is it apples to apples? We don’t know that yet.” Mike Day a consultant for the county with Elert and Associates advised there are still many questions that need to be answered and specifications to be clarified.

RACOM submitted a five site plan, while Motorola submitted two plans, both a six site and a five site option. The cost and the coverage will be considered before a decision is made by local officials. There are also options for add-ons and upgrades.

A subcommittee will meet next week with Day to further review the specifics and the full group will meet in April.
