An update on the upcoming C Avenue reconstruction project was given at the recent Kalona City Council meeting.

City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh presented designs for work on C Avenue between 5th and 6th Streets, “The goal of the project is to remove and replace underground infrastructure, to remove and replace some sidewalks as needed, but not to remove anything that would have been in the 2009-2010 downtown streetscape. So it’s to border up against those things that we would have done.”

The project includes redoing the Kalona Public Library entrance and making it ADA-compliant. City Engineer Jack Pope of Garden & Associates, Ltd. is designing the project, with bid letting expected in April. The total estimated cost of the project is $237,500 which is coming out of the city’s road use funds budget.
