Sigourney basketball player Dustin Haines received a special award from the South Iowa Cedar League this week.

Haines, a junior for the Savages, was the recipient of this year’s Golden Award. This award is given each year to a student athlete in the conference who was likely to have been an All-Conference selection but had their season derailed by illness, injury or other circumstances. Haines suffered a broken hand five games into the season and missed a large chunk of the year for Sigourney. Only able to play in eight games this season, Haines was still a force while on the floor, finishing eighth in the conference averaging 10 points per game. He led the Savages shooting 32% from three point range, dished out 25 assists and pulled down 38 rebounds. Sigourney ended the season with a 10-13 overall record.
