A payment was made for the Salveson Creek streambank restoration project at the recent Kalona City Council meeting.

The council approved a change order increase of $2,775 for compost grouting and a change order decrease of $1,625 for seeding. A payment of $263,509.81 was made to Peterson Contractors, and the council accepted public improvements on the project with a final contract cost of $277,378.75. The project involved a two-tier repairing and buffering of about 1,100 linear feet on the creek north of Highway 22. The work was done to stabilize and maintain the creek’s banks, and provide a mechanism to slow down fast-moving water. The project was funded by the monthly $3 stormwater assessment fee and approximately $100,000 in grants from the State Revolving Fund.
