David Dakota Copeland

A man wanted for voluntary absence from custody from Ottumwa was arrested after fleeing on foot in Washington early Thursday morning.

According to the Washington County Communications Office, at 2:05 a.m. the wanted man 24-year-old David Dakota Copeland took off on foot going eastbound near Wiley Avenue and Highway 92. Washington Police and Washington County Sheriff’s deputies assisted at the scene and were able to locate Copeland along Palm Avenue. An ambulance was called for a dog bite. Copeland was arrested for escape from the Ottumwa residential treatment facility with an original charge of forgery. He was taken to the Washington County Jail and extradition arrangements will be made.
