Last August, online and at the Iowa State Fair Iowans voted for a new license plate design that is now rolling off the production line.

The new county standard license plate design features a skyline with city buildings on one side and a barn and windmill on the other, over a green field. In the next few weeks the license plates will be going from Iowa Prison Industries to county treasurers’ offices. The new design will be transitioned into the existing plate replacement cycle, as plates have a lifespan of 10 years and will be automatically replaced when they are a decade old. You can get a new plate for $5, even if your current one isn’t yet up for replacement.
