A candidate running for the Republican nomination for the state’s second congressional district is holding public events in Washington County this weekend.

Ginny Caligiuri of Osceola will be doing a meet and greet at the Kalona Chamber of Commerce from 10 a.m.-noon, and from 2-4 p.m. at the Dodici Shop and meeting room in Washington Saturday. There will also be a “house” party at Kevin Leichty’s Woodworking Shop in Wayland at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Caligiuri explains why she is making this visit, “So I announced my run for candidacy two weeks ago and now what I’m doing is going around to every county, different towns in the county, so that I can hear what is important to the people in District 2. I want to hear what’s in people’s hearts and what’s important to them.”

Caligiuri is running against Christopher Peters of Coralville for the Republican nomination in the primary election June 5. The congressional seat is currently held by Dave Loebsack of Iowa City, who is running for the democratic nomination.
