State services are expected to be hit by a tax cut plan proposed by state Senate Republicans that would slash state general fund revenues by more than $1 billion annually if fully implemented.

State Senator Rich Taylor (D) comments on the effect of this bill, “It’ll devastate our services to the state, mental health, our department of corrections, our department of public health, our department of transportation, everything. I mean it will just devastate our programs. They’re already talking that we’re short on funding, and then to cut a billion dollars out of our state tax receipts is just irresponsible.”

Taylor predicts that the state cuts to programs will trickle down to affect local tax payers for services such as sheriff’s departments and schools. Taylor says chances are pretty good that Senate File 2383 will be approved and sent to Governor Kim Reynold’s desk for signing.
