The students at St. James Elementary School presented a donation to Eastern Iowa Honor Flight this week.

Eastern Iowa Honor Flight helps area WWII, Korea, and Vietnam veterans travel to Washington D.C. to visit historical monuments and war memorials. Earlier this year, during Catholic Schools Week, the 111 students at the school held a penny war – where each grade has a jar of coins and the goal is to have more pennies than the others, but silver coins are deposited to count against the pennies. The three-year-old preschool won the penny war, but the fourth graders brought in the most money. In total, $880.01 was presented to Eastern Iowa Honor Flight President Allen Stekle.
