Tornadoes can happen any month of the year, and a tornado drill is being held Wednesday as this week is Severe Weather Awareness Week.

The statewide drill will begin at 10 a.m. Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen explains the National Weather Service will issue the drill just like they would issue a tornado warning for a real storm. She says people should use this as practice, whether you’re at work, at home, or at school. Know where to go to seek shelter should a severe storm ever be in the area.

The sirens in the cities located in Washington County will be activated during the drill. Listen to KCII for live coverage of the drill with the KCII Severe Weather Action Team.
