The outdoor track season kicked off in southeast Iowa Thursday night as the Washington Demons hosted the Steve Roth Relays at Case Field.

Of the six area teams participating the top finish came from the Columbus Wildcats who were ninth of 20 schools with 102 points. The Wildcats crowned three champions on the night with Tommy Pretz winning the long jump at 18’10”, Abel Mena took the title in the 400 hurdles in 1:01.54 and the Columbus shuttle hurdle team of Abel Mena, Chance Colby, Nick Hernandez and Tommy Pretz took gold in 1:08.72. Other top finishes for the Wildcats included Pretz second in the 110 hurdles, Abel Mena third in the 400, Marc Estrada third in the 1600,Cody Fox fourth in the discus and fifth in the shot put, Jesus Medrano fifth in the 3200, Felix Solis fifth in the 200 and Will Schwab fifth in the 800. In relay events the Wildcat 4×100 team was runner up, 4×800 team, 4×400 and 4×200 teams were third and the distance medley team was fifth.

The Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves were 12th with 70 points. The Wolves had a pair of titles, both from Brandon Snowden who took the 100m dash in 11.78 seconds and the 200 in 24.42 seconds. Other top finishes for WMU included Talon Newton runner-up in the high jump, Juanito Piper third in the 110 hurdles, and Brody Barton third in the 3200, BJ Rodgers was fourth in the long jump, Brody Barton was fourth in the 800. In relay events, the Wolves sprint medley team was third, the 4×800 team fourth and the shuttle hurdle team fifth.

The WACO Warriors were 14th with 58 points. The Warriors scored a pair of titles on the night with Colton Horak winning the 110 hurdles in 16.59 and the 4×100 team of Will Edeker, Drew Kissell, Elijah McGohan and Calvin Battle won the title in 47.87 seconds. Other top finishes for the Warriors included Colton Horak runner-up in the 100 and Kade McKinney fourth in the shot put. In relay events the sprint medley team was runner-up, the shuttle hurdle team third and the 4×200 team fifth.

The Keota Eagles were 14th with 57 points. The Eagles had two championships on the night with the distance medley team of Sam Sieren, Tristan Sypherd, Brady Duwa and Olin Walker finishing in 4:25.16, the Eagle 4×200 team were also winners as Luke Greiner, JD Stout, Sam Sieren and Logan Sieren finished in 1:38.92. Other top finishes for the Eagles included Justin Moeller third in the 800, JD Stout third in the 200, Wyatt Sieren fourth in the 400 and Brady Duwa fifth in the long jump. In relay events the 4×400 team were runners-up and the sprint medley team finished fifth.

The Washington Demons were 17th with 31 points. Top finishes for the Demons came from Ryan Reighard fourth in the 100, Spencer Sotelo fifth in the long jump and Brennan Horak fifth in the 3200. In relay events, the 4×200 team were runners-up, the sprint medley team was third, the distance medley team fourth and the shuttle hurdle team fifth.

The Highland Huskies were 18th with 28 points. Top finish for the Huskies came from the distance medley team of Jarett Brown, Samuel Davis, Mason McFarland and Mason Manley in second place at 4:27.42. Other top finishes included Zack Lasek third in the shot put, fifth in the discus, the 4×200 team fourth, Isaac Black fifth in the 400 hurdles and Mason Manley fifth in the 1600.
