County health rankings across Iowa have been released and Washington County saw a slight decline in health outcomes from 2017 to 2018.

The Washington County Board of Health discussed the rankings and public health administrator Danielle Pettit-Majewski said, “Overall, we did go down in our health outcomes, overall, we went from 23 to 27, which is still in the top third so I still think that’s pretty good.” Henry County went from 50 to 69 for health outcomes.

In adult obesity Washington County had a 32% rate, on par with the state for 2018. Access to health care professionals was below the state rate, including one dentist for every 2,480 people in the county nearly 1,000 more people than the state rate. And for mental health providers the state rate is 760 people for each provider, Washington County’s rate is 1,860 for each provider.
