Tariffs have been put in place on steel and aluminum imports in the U.S. and this worries some farmers about the trade and products they export.

Keota farmer and current president of the American Soybean Association John Heisdorffer is concerned, “[It’ll] be devastating to farmers. The president’s said that he’s, well he actually hasn’t said, he’s signed into effect a tariff on imports of steel and aluminum. And of course that bothers us because a lot of our customers, our soybean customers, in other countries supply to the U.S. And of course our number one customer China is our biggest concern. You know, we, the U.S. actually exports 60% of U.S. soybeans that we grow here, and China, like I said, is the biggest customer, they take about one out of every three rows of soybeans grown here. The tariffs are 25% on steel and 10% on aluminum.
