Due to a heavy, wet snow on March 24th, a book signing with local historian Michael Zahs and Loren Horton of the University of Iowa has been rescheduled for Tuesday.

The pair recently co-authored a book about symbols on grave markers and accumulated photos for the field guide. Symbols vary from different types of flowers to variations on crosses. Zahs provided the example of a cleome flower, which symbolizes someone who was nice but kind of odd. Zahs shares why they decided to write the book, “We just feel that a cemetery should be enjoyed and if you enjoy a cemetery that honors the people that are there. We hope that this book encourages people to take some field trips out to cemeteries.” The event begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday (4/3) at the Washington Public Library.
