Fire departments across Washington County were busy Thursday extinguishing grass fires.

According to the Washington County Communications Office, at 3:49 p.m. a small fire got out of control west of West Chester near Highway 92 and Ginkgo Avenue. Washington Fire Department responded and put it out. At 5:37 p.m. Kalona Fire Department extinguished a grass fire that was moving across a field near 4975 Sharon Center Road Southwest. At 9 p.m. a controlled burn got out of control near 1435 Riverside Road and the Riverside Fire Department extinguished it. No injures were reported.
