Fire Departments across Washington County were busy Friday extinguishing grass fires that got out of control.

According to the Washington County Communications Office, at 2:32 p.m., a grass fire going toward a field was called in in the 3300 block of Underwood Avenue. The Crawfordsville Fire Department responded and Olds Fire Department was called for mutual aid. At 3:27 p.m., a CRP burn got out of control in the 1100 block of 277th Street and Richland Fire Department extinguished it. At 4:33 p.m., near 125th Street and Elm Avenue near Wellman, a fire was heading into cornstalks with no one around it. Wellman Fire Department put out the fire and the landowner was made aware of the situation.
