Area middle school and high school students recently competed in an art competition in Washington.

Art Domestique and the Washington Lions Club hosted the second annual Budding Artists competition at the downtown gallery. Washington County students and those from contiguous counties were able to submit work for the juried show. In two-dimensional Rayna Buxton of Winfield-Mt. Union High School took first place. In three-dimensional first place went to Madison Van Luyn of Wapello High School. Delany Adams of Washington High School claimed first in photo or digital work. The middle school two-dimensional winner was Rachel Mattus of Lone Tree Middle School.
