A cooler start to spring has caused a delay for area parks in preparing for campers.

Washington County Conservation has had to delay opening the Marr Park shower house, campground water system, and Mary Marr Lodge restroom due to colder temperatures. Lake Darling State Park has also withheld from opening their shower houses and turning on their water system. State Park Ranger Zach Haworth comments on the setback, “It’s our goal every year to try to get those buildings open as close to April 15th as possible, and obviously this year has just been cooler with lows down below freezing, so it’s really pushed back our plans to do that. We know there’s a lot of folks who are out there itching to get camping and to get outdoors, and we’re just as excited as everybody else, but right now we kind of have to work with what Mother Nature gives us.”

With high temperatures expected to be in the 60s next week, Marr Park and Lake Darling State Park hope to open their shower houses then.
