Iowa is behind on corn planting.

According to Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig, “Another round of cold, wet weather and some significant snowfall again kept farmers from the field for much of the past week. As a result, we are now well behind the five-year average of 11 percent of corn planted by April 22.”

The extended winter conditions have also had an impact on pasture development and it is currently rated at 13% very poor, 19% poor, 43% fair, 23% good, and two percent excellent. Some calving losses have been reported as higher than normal in northern Iowa.
