A gas line was struck in downtown Washington near the intersection of North Marion Avenue and West 3rd Street Friday.

As heard live from the scene on KCII, at about 10:30 a.m. traffic was blocked in the area by local authorities. The gas line was hit as crews worked on construction where the former Goncho Apartment Building stood. There was a strong gas odor and people were asked to avoid the area as crews worked to repair the line. Washington Police Department and Washington Fire Department assisted at the scene.
