Golden Hawk Soccer Hosts Pair of RVC Matches

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls soccer teams will both be in action Monday when they host the Monticello Panthers in a River Valley Conference doubleheader at the Wellman Soccer Complex.

The Golden Hawk girls come into the match with momentum after a 5-4 golden goal win over Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union to open the season Thursday. The Golden Hawks were led in the match by Katie Frantz with a hat trick including the game winning golden goal five minutes into extra time. Libby Baker also scored twice against the Wildcats. Macey Smith made four saves in goal for the Hawks. Monticello enters tonight with an overall record of 0-1. They were shut out by Maquoketa in their season opener Thursday 5-0. The Panthers were 2-11 a season ago, and lost their leading goal scorer Cassidy Covington to graduation. These two teams met a year ago with Mid-Prairie taking a 4-0 win.

The Mid-Prairie boys enter tonight’s action with an overall record of 1-1. They beat Highland 10-0 to open the season and fell to West Liberty 6-1 in the second match of the year. On the season Mid-Prairie is led by sophomore Ashton VanWinkle with four goals. Zeus Fugate and Nick Ives share the team lead with three assists. In goal Jacob Busch has made seven saves.

Monticello is 1-4 on the season. Last time out they fell to Bellevue Marquette Catholic 11-2. On the season the Panthers are led by Gavin Holub with five goals scored. Janik Chally has the team lead with a pair of assists and in goal Monticello is led by Noel Halder with 67 saves on the year. These two teams met a season ago with Mid-Prairie scoring a 5-1 win.

Both matches start at 4:30 this evening in Wellman.
