A construction contract has been awarded to begin the groundwork of the Wellness Park in Washington.
At a regular meeting Tuesday, the council approved the grading and utilities contract at $850,292 to DeLong Construction. The other bid received was only $6,000 higher and was from Cornerstone Excavating. City Administrator Brent Hinson said this is the necessary step to get to the exciting amenities of the park, “We’re doing the grading and utilities now, this will be great to get this moving forward. We still have some time to work as a committee on a variety of things, including figuring out the final scope for that second project then to complete what we call Phase 1. So, we will have some time to work on that, I believe that that’s probably going to be more like spring of next year that we’ll be letting that project.” The work will include extension of utilities, sanitary sewer and storm sewer; grading of the land for the baseball, softball and soccer fields; a dry detention basin; and laying a stone base for parking lots and road extensions.
