The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls soccer teams were both at home Monday to face the Monticello Panthers at the Wellman Soccer Complex in a River Valley Conference doubleheader.

The girls got things started in a contest that the Panthers took by a 6-1 score. Monticello started the game strong with a quick blitz of offensive chances that put the Panthers on top 4-0 going into the half. Mid-Prairie found the back of the net early in the second half to slow Monticello down and climb within 4-1 but that was as close as the Hawks would get as following a delay on the field for an injury to Golden Hawk goalie Macey Smith that involved local first responders, Monticello added a pair insurance goals to seal the win. With the loss Mid-Prairie is now 1-1 on the year.

The Golden Hawk boys used a big second half to pull away from Monticello for a 6-1 win. The Hawks held a 1-0 lead at the half but broke out for five goals in the second stanza as Mid-Prairie got everyone who dressed into the contest. A trio of Hawks had a pair of goals as Zeus Fugate, Elmir Ganibegovic and Ashton VanWinkle each found the back of the net twice. Fugate, VanWinkle, Jose Juarez, Nathan Quinby and Aaron Slaubaugh each had an assist. With the win the Golden Hawks are now 2-1 on the year.
