A local non-profit that provides comfort care at the end of life is celebrating a milestone this year. Hospice of Washington County is celebrating its 30th year in the community.

Their services reach to a 50 mile radius and includes seven counties. In May the organization will be kicking off a capital campaign, which Executive Director Katrina Altenhofen explains, “We’ve never really done a major capital campaign. Our building is getting in need of either some TLC or more than likely, because we’ve outgrown it, to put another building across on the other side of the driveway. So we had one of our volunteers say, ‘You know, 30 years, let’s take 30 days, and raise $300,000.’ So that is one of the things that we are aiming for, we’re shooting for the stars.”

Altenhofen explains Hospice of Washington County provides an array of services for patients usually in their last six months of life and services include music therapy, massage therapy, nurse care, and bereavement support for families. They will be hosting an open house and Alive After 5 event May 22nd that is open to the community.
