Construction on a Kalona street project will be put on hold due to RAGBRAI stopping through town this July.

City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh spoke with City Engineer Jack Pope about the C Avenue project, “We talked specifically about this because of RAGBRAI and our comfort level of initially bidding it and doing the project like very soon has kind of subsided with the concern that by July 27 that will be 100% complete.”

Schlabaugh said the plan now is to bid the project and begin work around September 1st, after the Kalona Community Center is open. The project involves removing and replacing underground infrastructure on C Avenue between 5th and 6th Streets, removing and replacing sidewalks as needed, and redoing the entrance to the Kalona Public Library, making it ADA-complaint. The total estimated cost of the project is $237,500 to be paid from the city’s road use funds budget.
