A Keota man has been arrested after a high speed chase that reached speeds of 95 to 100 miles per hour.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, at 7:20 a.m. Saturday an erratic driver was reported to dispatch on Blackhawk Avenue near Oxford. The vehicle then went east on Interstate 80, where a deputy attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver, 22-year-old Kyle Eakins, refused to stop and a pursuit ensued. Eakins went south on Highway 218, west on IWV Road, and into rural Iowa County. The chase ended when Eakins drove into a field where the vehicle became stuck. He then fled on foot but was found hiding in a creek and was taken into custody.

Eakins was charged with operating while intoxicated first offense, eluding, unlawful possession of prescription drugs, and multiple traffic violations. He was taken to the Johnson County Jail. The Iowa State Patrol, Iowa County Sheriff’s Office, Williamsburg Police Department, and University Heights Police Department assisted with this pursuit.
