After 130 trees are given away to Washington residents a tree planting event will be held along the Kewash Trail in Washington.

Tree Committee member Andy Dahl explains the Kewash event, “We have, I think, 800 seedlings of different species, redbuds, wild swamps, service berries and I think we have about 50 containerized trees, similar to the ones we’ll be giving away, we’re going to replant along the Kewash. Some of your listeners, may have noticed the tree clearing that went on out there, that was all invasive species that were taking over. We left anything native, so as most people can see there’s not much. And we’re going to replant with these much more valuable native species for birds and butterfly larva, and that sort of thing.” The community is invited to come help plant the seedlings along the trail. The tree giveaway begins at 8 a.m. May 5th on the east side of the downtown square, followed by the seedling planting.
