PAWS and More Animal Shelter is working to reduce the population of cats in the county and needs more live traps.

The shelter uses the traps for their Trap/Neuter/Return program, where cats are taken in, undergo surgery and get vaccines, and then are returned to the area they were found to help keep the population under control. Director of the shelter Amber Talbot says now is an important time of year to have cats spayed or neutered, “If you have an animal, dog or cat, that’s not spayed or neutered yet, especially if it’s an outdoor animal, or if you’ve just been helping take care of a kitty or an animal through the winter that maybe isn’t necessarily yours but you’ve been feeding it, now is the time to absolutely get it in and get it spayed, because they will start reproducing now at this time. We already have cats coming in that are pregnant. Please help us and get these guys spayed and neutered before you’ve got litters of pets on your hands that are unmanageable, and we can prevent that, so we for sure want to help you do that.”

Each trap costs $80 and the goal is to purchase 12 new traps, so a total of $960 is needed. Donations can be sent to the shelter by mail or through their online PayPal account.
