The Riverside City Council approved a $12,000 budget for entertainment for RAGBRAI passing through town July 27.

Committee member Kevin Meller told the city council he wants to have bands perform for the visitors. The city previously approved $5,000 for amenities. Mayor Allen Schneider comments on how Riverside’s planning committee is doing after attending a statewide meeting April 7, “I think we’ve got good information, the key thing will be getting people involved. The more people we can have that volunteer for this event, I think the better event we’re going to have. So we’re working on that, like I said we’re working on trying to get the entertainment lined up and have a better idea of what’s going to be involved throughout the day. But I’m expecting that we’re going to have a great event and hopefully the other communities in the area will as well.”

Riders will be heading to Riverside from Kalona on Highway 22, and then will travel to Hills on their way to Iowa City for the overnight stop. An ordinance on vendor fees will be brought to the city council at their next meeting.
