Action was taken on lead pipe replacement for the downtown streetscape project in Riverside.

Mayor Allen Schneider explains what the city council decided during a recent special meeting, “So as we have opened up the street and some of the other areas as part of this project we’ve discovered some lead water services and the discussion was just to figure out how the city council wanted to proceed with those. I think the decision was, we were going to replace those services wherever we found them. The city would take care of any expense up to our curb stop and then it would be the property owner’s responsibility from there on.”

Schneider says this lead pipe replacement is near the Peoples Trust & Savings Bank on Railroad Street. Schneider says work is on schedule for the project, which involves storm drainage work on West First Street, redoing the raised sidewalks, repairing the alley and parking. A portion of Pioneer Street, or Riverside Road, is closed during the project. Work on the first phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of June.
