Within one half hour over the weekend PAWS and More took in three litters of kittens with their mothers and director Amber Talbot is reminding people to get pets spayed and neutered.

Had those mothers been spayed, instead of taking in 15 total cats, it would have been three. Talbot advises spring is often when there is an influx of kittens and puppies, “If you have an animal, dog or cat, that’s not spayed or neutered yet, especially if it’s an outdoor animal, or if you’ve just been helping take care of a kitty or an animal through the winter that maybe isn’t necessarily yours but you’ve been feeding it, now is the time to absolutely get it in and get it spayed, because they will start reproducing now at this time. We already have cats coming in that are pregnant. Please help us and get these guys spayed and neutered before you’ve got litters of pets on your hands that are unmanageable, and we can prevent that, so we for sure want to help you do that.”

The next low cost spay and neuter day is April 16th, contact PAWS and More to arrange for your pet to be part of the program and help control the animal population. The shelter arranges transportation to the Cedar Rapids facility for the surgery and then brings them back to town for pick up.
